| Use Of International Driving License in UK
This section was added due to interest from our visitors. Visitors who visit UK may drive in UK using International driving license for up to 1 year per visit. If you leave the country (say a holiday to Europe), you essentially ends a visit and will be given another 1 year allowance. However, once you have become a ordinary resident in the United Kingdom, you may drive using your International Driving License for another further 1 year. By the end of the 1 years period, you must acquire a UK license. If you are from countries where the UK has reciprocal agreement with such as Japan, EU and Singapore, you may convert your driving license into a UK license. Please visit DVLA website for details.
Norwich Union Direct is probably the only insurer who currently Does Not Discriminate between UK/EU and international driving license holder. In the questions related to license, they are only interested in the length of the license being held and whether any accident/claim occurred in the past 5 years (this policy was verified by their customer service department). So, if you are looking hard for a cover because you are still holding an International Driving License, it may be worth getting a quote from NU Direct online as long as you have not made more than 1 claim in the last 4 years. Further, they give an extra 10% discount when one request a quote via their website.
